Growing up without a father can leave a child feeling unseen, unsupported, and unsure of their place in the world. At Lilies Foundation PDX, we are committed to stepping into that gap—offering guidance, encouragement, and stability to children who need it most.
Recently, we met Evan, a quiet 10-year-old whose father passed away last year. His mother was doing her best to provide, but between work and bills, she struggled to give Evan the mentorship and companionship he craved. Through our community mentorship program, Evan was paired with David, a volunteer who began taking him to the park, helping with homework, and introducing him to sports.
Within months, Evan’s confidence grew. He began speaking up in class, making new friends, and even told his mother he wanted to be a mentor when he grew up.
Why This Matters
Every child deserves to feel supported, guided, and loved. The absence of a father figure doesn’t have to mean the absence of hope.
