At Lilies Foundation PDX, we believe that community is more than just living near one another—it’s about showing up, sharing burdens, and celebrating victories together.
Last winter, we met Mr. Thompson, an 82-year-old widower who had been quietly struggling to get groceries during the colder months. The icy sidewalks and long bus rides made each trip a challenge, and his pantry often went empty.
When one of our volunteers learned about his situation, they organized a rotating grocery delivery schedule. Within a week, Mr. Thompson had fresh food on his table, friendly faces visiting, and a renewed sense of connection to the people around him.
Why This Matters
For many elderly and vulnerable members of our community, isolation can be as harmful as any physical need. A warm meal helps the body—but a caring conversation helps the soul.
How You Can Help
-
Offer a ride to an elderly neighbor
-
Volunteer for our grocery delivery program
-
Donate to support food and transportation assistance
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” – Galatians 6:2
When we show up for one another, we turn neighbors into family—and family always takes care of its own.
