A Mother’s Love Beyond Blood: Caring for the Forgotten Elderly

There are countless elderly souls in our communities who quietly carry the weight of loneliness. No children to call, no spouse to lean on, no one to ask how their day has been. Too often, they are left to navigate their final years in silence—unseen, unheard, and untouched by love.

My parents could never let that happen. Whenever they came across an elderly neighbor with no family left, they stepped in without hesitation. They became the helping hands to lift groceries, the comforting voices to share a meal with, and the shoulders to lean on when life felt heavy.

One winter, they met Mrs. Jenkins, a frail woman who had lost her husband decades ago and had no children of her own. She spent most days watching the world go by from a small apartment window. My parents started visiting her weekly—bringing warm meals, fixing things around her home, and most importantly, filling her days with laughter and conversation. Over time, she began to smile again, no longer feeling invisible.

No one should grow old believing they are forgotten—love can be the family they thought they lost forever”

For my parents, love was never confined to bloodlines. Family was anyone who needed one. The Lilies Foundation was born from this belief—that no elderly person should face their final chapters alone, and that a simple act of kindness can restore hope where it has long been lost.

This is their legacy: to give the forgotten a reason to feel remembered, to offer love where there once was only silence.
